Hindsighting investments - Income funds, GICs or both?
We all wish we had invested in “that sure thing”. The problem is the Sure-Thing racehorse “could” have won the Belmont stakes. Life’s like that - some you win, some come in fourth. However, for most the sure-thing investment is fixed term deposit instruments, like guaranteed investment certificate. Financial planning experts counsel that a portion of your portfolio be investor in fixed income securities.

Looking for a different type of accommodation in retirement - check out a Life lease property
Life lease is a unique housing option for mature adults and seniors. A life lease project provides an opportunity to purchase an interest in the project and to "share" in any appreciated value of the building and property. The market value life lease model, provides seniors with the potential to earn a return on investment similar to the equity growth in a private home, without the headaches and worries associated with the maintenance of private property. Life lease communities create a sense of security and well-being for residents.

Don't let the thrill of buying your new home be dampened by not considering the property taxes
Property taxes are one of the major ongoing costs to consider when purchasing any new home. It's a good idea to start off on the right track by deciding which method of payment is right for you and your budget.

Did you have GIC investments with Confederation Trust?
Some 37,000 individual investors have been identified. $2,000.000 in RRSPs and $6,000.000 in non-registered accounts have entitlement payments being processed. You may recall Conded Trust was placed into receivership by CDIC about 10 years ago. News from PriceWaterhouseCooper, its liquidator indicates that those individuals that have interest claims are being paid out. If you’ve moved since that time, you may wish to contact them at 416-815-5192 and find out how to get your information updated regarding this matter.

Further news is from National Bank in that its holding RRSP related monies above $250.00. If you have received payment you will also be issued a T5 slip in respect for this payment of interest income and you’re required to report it as income on your tax return.
