GIC Laddering Explained – An Interactive Demonstration

Curious about GIC Laddering or how it can benefit your own situation? We've produced a simple interactive demonstration to provide you with a clear picture of how it works. Simply specify a starting amount to invest and the interest payment frequency, and from there we'll show you what to expect in a traditional GIC ladder configuration, using products currently available from our GIC rate table.

We hope you now have a better understanding of GIC Laddering. Feel free to re-adjust the parameters you specified to see other product selections available and the results they produce.

Do you have any questions or comments? Contact us today and we'll explain these concepts further. Also, for further reading, we recommend our website article GIC Laddering offers you flexibility and liquidity.

Notes: This GIC laddering demonstration calculator is for illustrative purposes only. It does not recognize any investments already held, nor the issuers in your portfolio. Considerations should be made to stay within safe deposit insurance limits. The calculator illustrates a rolling investment scheme that divides the principal amount into five equal amounts. It illustrates how the first one-year investment at maturity is reinvested in a new 5-year investment, whereas the prior 5-year investment now resides in the fourth year position. The goal is to obtain the highest rate at inception. As each investment matures, the funds are then placed in a five-year certificate (or are available at maturity for other purposes.)
