| For many people, the idea of investing
in conservative, dividend-paying stocks or mutual funds that specialize
in these types of securities is not one that immediately comes to
mind. While there are a number of reasons for this seeming lack of
interest, the recent bear market in equities now provides a unique
vantage point from which to judge how this asset class can perform.
And the good news is that despite diverse market conditions, the benefits
of investing in conservative, dividend-paying securities have stood
the test of time. |

Question: "Capital Class"
seems to be a new mutual fund investment term. What does it mean?
Answer: Investment fund managers have structured special mutual
funds with the option of moving from one fund to another without triggering
a capital gain tax liability. This provides a tax-efficiency otherwise
unavailable with non-RRSP accounts. In most cases, Capital class type
mutual funds are considered (under current tax rules) as 100% Canadian
content. However, some foreign ones - qualify within the classification,
thus world market exposure. |

Shopaholic, Sophie Kinsellas character Rebecca Bloomwood tries
to make peace with her overspending-self. It does make for humorous
reading but the similarities to real life make it sadly tragic. After
25 years in financial services, Im afraid I have run into more
than my fair share of real life shopaholics. |
